Miami FC was eliminated from the U.S Open Cup by the Houston Dynamo (MLS) by a final score of 1-0 at Robertson Stadium in the third round of the competition. Despite numerous scoring opportunities and an acrobatic penalty kick save by Caleb Patterson, the Blues were unable to take advantage and suffered the shutout loss. Miami will travel to Tampa on Sunday, July 4th to square off against the up-state rival FC Tampa Bay Rowdies, for the second game of the “Coastal Cup”.
“Ironically we played our best game so far. It could have gone either way,” Miami FC head coach Victor Pastora said. “They were the team who put away their chances and we could not capitalize on ours. It’s time to focus on the league. Our growth gives me confidence that we could have a special year.”
The Blues started the match by maintaining possession of the ball, which created an opportunity for leading goal scorer Paulo Jr., who almost netted his sixth goal in Open Cup competition, when the Brazilian forward gathered a ball inside the box and unleashed a dangerous shot that sailed just wide of the net.
Moments later, Edward Santeliz rifled a shot from outside the box, forcing the Houston goalkeeper to make an acrobatic save to keep the game scoreless.
Paulo Jr. once again almost picked up a first half goal to give the Blues a lead in the first half, creating a good give and go with a teammate but as he tried to sneak it past Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall, he quickly came off his line and snuffed the attack.
Ten minutes later, Houston began to threaten when Craig Waibel found Navas Cobo down the left flank. Cobo got an open look at the net, but Patterson deflected the ball out of bounds to help keep the score even after 45 minutes of play.
In the opening moments of the second half, a penalty kick was awarded to the Dynamo. Richard Mulrooney kicked a well-placed ball down and to the left of Patterson, but the Miami FC goalkeeper dove to his left and blocked the penalty kick to keep the game tied at 0-0.
The Blues continued to press forward, much like they had done in the first half. Once again, it was Paulo Jr. who tried to get Miami FC on the scoreboard by lobbing a ball over the head of Hall, but Hall made a finger tip save to once again deny the shifting striker from breaking the stalemate.
Former MLS MVP Christian Gomez would help add continued pressure on Houston as he curled a ball around the wall created by the defense, forcing Hall to punch away another dangerous opportunity in front of the Dyanmo goal.
In the 74th minute, Bryan Arguez launched a shot from 40 yards deep that nearly surprised Hall. Hall retreated back to his line and tipped the floating ball over the crossbar to once again deny the Blues’ effort to take the lead.
With only ten minutes left to go, Dominic Oduro snuck a beautiful through ball to Lovel Palmer, who beat Patterson for the only goal of the match. The goal proved enough to end Miami FC’s Open Cup aspirations.

No matter what we do, no matter who
we put on the pitch we just can't
get past this team. Tonight the
Aztex arrived tired, there was no
excuse not to put this team away and
use them as a trophy. Despite this
advantage and yet another advantage
in the 83rd minute when we were
playing 11 on 10, we still could not
put this team away.
I don't think its the coaching and I
don't think its our players but
something is causing us to react as
though we are a good enough team and
we really are. So what
is it?
The next regular season home match
for the Blues will be against the
Puerto Rico Islanders on Saturday,
July 17 at Lockhart Stadium. Game
time is set for a 7:30 p.m. start.
However please stay tuned to US Open
Cup updates. If we win vs. the
Dynamo then our next opponent could
be the Galaxy right here at
Lockhart.

Goals in the 2nd minute by Paulo Araujo Jr. assisted by Christian Gomez and Penalty kick by Abe Thompson in 97th minute created by a handball in the box by Tampa Bay's Velentino. Valentino already had a yellow card in the 79th minute he should have been red carded. Miami FC will advance to the third round of the U.S. Open Cup with a thrilling 2-1 victory in extra time over the FC Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Blues will travel out west to take on the Houston Dynamo of MLS in the next round on June 29

The Blues looked sharp last night and it also looked like Christian Gomez finally showed up to play. Late in the 2nd half Christian thwarted off 3 defenders into the 18 and then made a brilliant pass to the feet of awaiting Paulo Araujo Jr.'s who blasted a laser shot into the backside of the net. NSC's goalkeeper never had a chance! Blues held on to the 1-0 lead for BIG "W". Blues next game is this Wednesday night at 7:30PM vs. the Austin Aztecs at Lockhart. But the score is deceiving, we almost
lost that game because we got suckered into
thinking this team was nothing. We scored a
quick goal in the first minute on a
brilliant shot from JP Rodriguez which came
off of an excellent pass from ace Christian
Gomez. We could have scored more and in fact
we had many chances to score more but it was
really hard trying to penetrate because the
Kraze planted 10 of their players in front
of their goal.
Blues kept on hitting awesome shots
that were ricocheting off of the Kraze's
keeper. It was amazing! Half of the
blasts the keeper did not even see cause
they were coming in so fast, he was just in
the way!. Credit to the Kraze nothing was
getting through. They would only
attack on quick counter strikes but to no
avail we would get the ball back and start
pounding again. Then in the 68th minute one
player got lose and he scored into the far
corner. Caleb was livid!
Wow! Now the Blues had to scramble
and for the next 20 minutes it was like a
battle zone on the field. It was "fierce"
soccer! In the end the score was tied.
1-1. But wait! It can't end in a tie, they
had to play (2) 15 minute periods to decide
the game. Both teams had already used
up their subs; so no substitutions were
allowed. These guys was exhausted! Even the
referee could not go on anymore, he was
substituted by the linesman and the linesman
was substituted by the 4th official..
In the final 15 minutes the Kraze
players started falling like dead flies on
the field. That's when Paulo Araujo Jr. came
to the rescue and slotted 4
individual goals. Each time weaving
in and out of exhausted Kraze defenders and
goalie.
Credit the Kraze, they played their
hearts out and to the credit of the Blues
,we were just in better shape and that's why
we won. To see picture of some of last
nights action,

Great rivalry in the stands and on the filed! Tampa Bay fought and applied pressure throughout the game. Referee chose to ignore many obvious fouls inflicted by Tampa and allowed the teams to fight it out. Unfortunately Cristiano Gomez was given a red card in the 47th minute which allowed Tampa to catch up in the 82nd minute. Making the final score of 1-1. Blues play Carolina on Sat. Vancouver prepared very well prior to the start of last night's game and they were very very confident that they would come down here to do their business take the 3 points and leave. Such was not the case last night as the Blues dominated the major part of the match and controlling the pace of game. Mind you, this is a team that has not gelled as of yet; the kinks in the chemistry need to be ironed out but one can clearly see a huge difference between the first game of the season and last night. This is a great team! The Blues face off against State Rivals "Tampa Bay Rowdies" on Saturday May 01, at 7:30 PM. Reserve team will play tonight at Tropical Park 5:30PM vs. Universitario de Uruguay.

Paulo Araujo Jr. scores lone goal for the Blues off a M. Lancaster rebound, initiated by a Mike Randolph corner kick. Despite controlling the ball and the pace for most of the game the Blues could not get the ball past Rhino's GK Scott Vallow.
Abe Thompson and Nick Santeliz were denied on several occasions and Junior almost made a miraculous goal that hit the cross bar. Crowd was fun, ambience was good, weather was great! Blues face off against rival Vancouver on Saturday the 17th of April at 7:30. See pictures of last night's game by clicking here or on picture above.

Miami FC announced the signing of five Brazilians
from their sister club, Desportivo Brasil. The most
notable of the five signings is forward Paul Araujo
Jr., one of Miami’s top players from last season.
The other signings include Ariel Germiniani,
Paulinho Le Petit, Lennon Celestino, and Euzebio
Neto. Neto, a right back, spent last season on loan
with Miami FC sister club, Estoril of Portugal’s
second division.
“This is a very young and talented nucleus, we have been monitoring these players and we think they are ready to show their skills here in the US. We already know what Paulo Jr. can do, and we know that the other players will contribute to what is becoming a very solid 2010 roster,” said team General Manager Luiz Muzzi.
Thompson attended Wilbert Tucker Woodson High School in Virginia, and played college soccer at the University of Maryland from 2000 to 2005, where he appeared in 79 games scoring 43 goals and adding 26 assists. He was named a Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2004 and 2005.
Thompson also played in the USL Premier Development League for Chesapeake Dragons and Boulder Rapids Reserve, and played club soccer for the Braddock Road Warhawks, with whom he won the 1999 Don Greer Cup and the 1999 US U-17 National Championship.
He was drafted in the second round, 16th overall,
in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft by FC Dallas, and
subsequently spent four years in Texas. He was
traded to Kansas City Wizards on September 5, 2008
in exchange for allocation money.[1]
The Houston Dynamo acquired Thompson and allocation
money from the Kansas City Wizards in exchange for
forward Kei Kamara. However, Thompson was waived at
the end of the season and was selected by Real Salt
Lake in the resulting Waiver Draft. Thompson was
waived by Real Salt Lake during the 2010 pre-season,
without making an appearance for the club.

The last BIG Nor'Easter that hit New York and the surrounding sates was on this day in 1888.On that day 58" of snow fell & 600 people were dead after the aftermath.
Well it certainly looked liked it was going to be one of those days in Fort Lauderdale; even the New Yorkers that were there with the the Red Bull where complaining of how cold it was. Wet, Windy Damp and Cold.
Despite the weather the 2 teams took to the field and played some decent scrimmage soccer at least for half the of the game.
Red Bulls had an early goal which was way to
easy, aprox. 10 minutes later the Blues tied the game
on a goal by
Edward Santeliz
